UBC Safe
UBC Safe is a free mobile app for the UBC Okanagan community. The app provides immediate access to Emergency Services, First Aid, and Safewalk. The app also has information on emergency procedures, support resources, and many other services.
UBC Alert
UBC Alert is the university’s mass notification system. This system will be used to send alerts in urgent situations that pose an immediate safety or security risks to the community, so you can make informed decisions that prioritize your individual safety.
How does UBC Alert work?
In an urgent situation, UBC Alert will send notifications by the following methods:
- Push notifications (UBC Safe app)
- SMS messages
- Automated calls to phone
- Web alert bars on ok.ubc.ca
- Digital signage across campus
UBC Alert will send you information unless you actively opt out. Make sure your mobile number is up-to-date in Workday in order to receive alerts about urgent situations.
When will UBC Alert be used?
UBC Alert will be used in active and urgent situations that have the potential to result in serious harm to people, cause substantial damage to property, or disrupt the usual activities of the university.
Examples of when UBC Alert with broadcast information include:
- Campus closures due to severe weather
- Campus evacuations or impacts because of infrastructure or hazmat-related issues; and/or
- Direction to evacuate, shelter/lockdown, or Run-Hide-Fight due to security-related issues.
