February 7th, 2022 – Campus Security along with Student Ambassadors greeted students and staff this morning at the Library. Free UBC masks and information provided on UBC and PHO orders on mask wearing in campus buildings. Watch for the teams this week at various campus buildings.
February 26, 2020 – Campus Security supports Pink Shirt Day along with our friends at Food Services.
January 31, 2020 – Campus Security and HSE are proud to support our campus partners during SAAM month.
January 27, 2020 – KFD Engine 5 crew attended a medical call on campus along with BCEHS. After the call, the crew practiced dropping the emergency traffic bollards to be familiar with the equipment should they need to access the area urgently.
January 16, 2020 – The Crime Stoppers Central Okanagan Society annual appreciation and awards event.
Thanks to guest speaker Kevin Burk, Senior Investigator, who provided valuable information on the new cannabis legislation.
January 10, 2020 – Campus Security promoting the use of a warming transit shelter during a heavy snow fall and cold snap.
January 9, 2020 – In partnership to upgrade safety for the campus community, Campus Security and Parking Services shared costs on the installation of the new safety call box in H lot overflow. The new call box, located next to the pay station, can be used during emergency and non-emergency situations to summon assistance 24/7. Thanks to our friends at Wi-Com Solutions Inc. Kelowna for the quick installation and technical support!
December 6, 2019 – Campus Security being proactive for emergencies on campus training with rescue rope.
October 17, 2019 – Safety reflectors given out promoting pedestrian safety on campus. We have a few left, drop into our Dispatch center to pick one up. A big thanks to Christine and our partners at ICBC.
October 3, 2019 – A big shout out to our neighbors at YLW for inviting Campus Security and HSE members to observe during the YLWEmergEX today. Great to see our First Responders in action under unified command.
October 2, 2019 – Over the next couple of weeks, AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) will be installed in a number of publicly accessible spaces across UBC Okanagan. September 19, 2019 – Campus Security implemented CPTED strategies by increasing lighting with the help from FM electricians along with landscaping maintenance by United Landscaping to make U House and area safer for all users.
September 11, 2019 – Campus Security stopped in to visit our friends at the UBCSUO tent during EXPO 2019 great discussions on FROSH week activities on campus.
August 30, 2019 – HSE and Campus Security teamed up to meet and greet everyone providing safety information during the Welcome Back event. The UBC Safe App wipes and Safe Walk flashlights were a hit for swag giveaways.
August 26, 2019 – Security Managers Mike and Chris attended Jump Start information session in the Gym. We were thrilled to be invited to have the opportunity to provide Safety and Security messages to our new students.
July 18, 2019 – Campus Security assisted DND staff in parking the new TAP-V vehicle outside EME during the STAR lab joint symposium.
July 12, 2019 – “Harvey” the UBCO Conference mascot was on the prowl and stopped Security Managers Mike and Chris to discuss First Aid services offered to the campus community.
June 7, 2019 – Campus Security and Health, Safety and Environment were proud to keep a watchful eye during UBCO Grad Convocation to ensure the safety and security of all attending, including information and first aid services. Congratulations Class of 2019!
May 30, 2019 – UBCO Campus Security and UBCO Conferences & Accommodation staff volunteered their time at the 2019 Spring Training event hosted by Lake Country Fire Rescue.
April 17, 2019 – We support Cops for Kids! Kelowna RCMP “arrested” Associate Director, Troy Campbell, to raise money for local children in medical, physical or traumatic crisis.

June 8, 2017 – Mike Gesi Receives 2017 President’s Service Award for Excellence
UBCO Security Manager Michael Gesi was awarded the 2017 President’s Service Award for Excellence by UBC President Santa Ono at the June 8th convocation ceremony on campus. Gesi, who has worked for 28 years on both the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses, exemplifies the true nature of security matters: providing hands-on and personable assistance to those in need. Mike has built personal relationships with the campus community and, when not on campus, serves with the Lake Country Fire Department. Mike is the first employee of UBC Okanagan to receive the President’s Service Award for Excellence. Everyone at UBCO Security is proud of everything you’ve accomplished, Mike!

Each year, UBCO Security is proud to assist with the campus Convocation. Teaming with our security guards from Securiguard, and our dear friends in Risk Management Services we patrol on foot and bicycle to keep everything running smoothly. Congratulations to all of our graduates this year – we wish you the best!
June 2, 2017 – Bike to Work Week BBQ with Project 529 BC
Project 529 is a program designed to make your bike safe from theft. Today, our very own Security Manager, Troy Campbell helped provide information and guidance on registering your bike with the National Bike Registry and Project 529. June 1, 2017 – Bike to Work Week
Join us Friday June 2nd from 12pm-1pm, in the Courtyard as we help celebrate Bike to Work Week! Project 529 BC will be on hand, and you can learn about a fantastic program to help keep your bike safe year-round. There will also be a fundraising BBQ for the Rails to Trails Initiative. See you there!
May 31, 2017 – Tim Horton’s Camp Day
Security Managers Mike Gesi and Paul Hipsey were on hand to assist with first UBCO campus Tim Horton’s Camp Day. Each year, Tim Horton’s helps send kids from low income backgrounds to camp. A great cause that we are happy to support!
