Wildfire Management
Campus Operations teams work collaboratively with other departments across campus to proactively and strategically minimize wildfire risk, while maximizing tree cover and protecting ecologically sensitive areas on campus.
Actions to proactively mitigate wildfire risk on campus include:
- Preventative tree thinning, pruning, and ground fuel cleanup, while recognizing the high value of mature native pine and fir trees
- Working with the Kelowna Fire Department and Fire Smart Canada to maintain Fire Smart certification (attained 2024)
- Student engagement and education
